Top teacher to quit over continuing-education costsQ. The push for continuing certification are a function of the belief that teachers aren't properly trained, don't know their subjects, or are generally stupid. Any ideas? A. While I think that perception exists and does negatively impact teaching, I'm not so sure that it's the culprit in this case. Many professions require continuing education. The theory is that whily you are in the field you don't get the chance to keep up on all the latest research and techniques out there. Teaching can be very isolating that way - not much contact with your peers because all your time is spent with the students. So you go take classes every once in a while to brush up. Doctors do it too. So do computer programmers. Most PROFESSIONS do it, and I very much consider teaching to be a profession. In California you can often get credits for attending a conference in your field because you ARE accomplishing the goal - you ARE picking up the latest developments and sharing with your peers. On the other hand, in most professions where continuing education is either required or expected corporations will pay for part or all of it. Either than or as with Doctors you make enough for it to be relatively inexpensive compared to your income Other Questions : GED infoDoes anyone know of some good online info on GED programs in the US?
