Any correspondence courses?

Q. Anyone know of any correspondence courses available? It's been a long time since college but I would like to go back through some math just for the fun and and knowledge of it. Probably need to start with basic calculus and go from there. I travel 100% in the job...writing this from a hotel in Manila. Probably no chance ever to take a local course because I never know what country I will be in from one day to the next.

A. It's not a bad book, but you have a lot of forward references for a 3rd edition, and he doesn't practice what he preaches in his examples (I know that in the section on trig substitution he says 'don't jump to trig substitution before you've exhausted your other options,' and then does exactly that on an example that falls to ordinary substitution... That and he has a really weird compulsion about using 3/4/5 Pythagorean triples for all his examples... Looking for some older books could be interesting, too, and they are often more "portable" (smaller size) than what seems to be in vogue in textbooks these days. John Wiley and McGraw-Hill from the 50's are a nice travel size. Also, the Dover books would travel well, though they might not be good for a while. Two books that I would recommend to bridge the gap between early US college level texts and more "grown-up" math books are "Introductory Mathematics: Algebra and Analysis" by Geoff Smith, and "An Accompaniment to Higher Mathematics" by George R. Exner. Both are published by Springer-Verlag, are inexpensive, (
