FREE Online Computer Training, B2B sales ?

A. -"85 per cent of people are not computer literate. Only 15 percent have computer knowledge and 80 per cent of them were self-taught." Who comes up with these figures? And who decides what is "computer literate"? Also, what is the sample population? Are you talking world-wide? Everything being relative, what defines a computer? Someone who knows BASIC isn't going to get very far in a Windows world. Nor is someone who knows Windows going to get very far on a secure network -I certainly cannot validate those figures for you - but I can point out that my experience over the past years in the technology assisted learning area with the business environment would back up those figures. My work involves providing technology assisted training to folks in a retail store environment, B2B sales, and even some corporate training. I have stacks and stacks of evidenciary emails from folks that don't know where the CD goes, don't understand mouse clicks, have no idea what explorer is, or how to find a file they just saved, or how to use ALT/TAB to shift between applications - basic computer functionality. It is never safe to assume the general population is computer literate. It is most assuredly a humbling experience to provide technology based training to a retail/sales environment that is not necessarily technology oriented. Back to the basics becomes a reality. -I live in a world where "computer illiterate" means you don't know how to hack Lotus Notes or bypass router rules. Occassionally I forget that there exist people that have never used computers, nor care too. It's probably not good business to take a Darwinnian view of such things; but one has to wonder.
