Ged Dates
Q. How accurate are ged files exported from one program to another? Is there information that is typically not included that I need to re-enter? I worry that I am loosing information when I do this and in a database of many people it is hard to pick through.
A. The gedcom may or may not contain the senders note that he/she has for the individuals. The file may have only notes that are coded as sources of the information. The gedcom may not contain dates for births, marriages and etc after a specific date such as no dates after 1917. Or, of course the gedcom may contain everything that the sender has on each individual. It is good to ask the person who is to send you the gedcom if all the notes and dates that he/she has on each individual is included with the gedcom.
