Ged TranscriptsQ. m a highschool drop out at the age of 16. will i ever be able to teach off of a GED . i want to teach secondary math. A. Congradulations on your GED! As I understand it, a GED is exactly as it states, an " equilivancy degree", it is equal to having completed high school. I think you have just a good a chance as any who has gone the "regular" route of high school. Your next step might be to speak with someone at the admissions office in the college you want to attend. What you need when you apply to college is a copy of your high school transcripts( GED transcripts). The next step would be to apply to that college and do your best! Since you have a GED, that's one hurdle you won't have to worry about. Before you attempt to go to a university, you might want to take two years at a junior college first, preferably one with an open-door policy. Then, when you have your associate degree, transfer to a four-year university and get your bachelor's degree in education there. If you want to teach special-education, you'll have to get a master's degree as well. If your goal is to teach regular education, I don't think a master's will be necessary. (I'm not a teacher, so I could be mistaken there.) Good luck! You'll be a great role model for the students you teach, because you went back and got your GED and then went to college to train for a career.
