Online Nursing Continuing Education

Q. The list has been interesting, but as a nursing student is week 4, much of the info is going right over my head. This is good... I'm learning! My school has internet networked systems, but so far, access is only available to computer majors and those in computer classes. I would like to make a convincing proposal to the nursing dept that would enable access for nursing students. What I need some help with is finding more internet based resources that are valuable to nursing students. This list is the only one I know of. Please post info here. I'm sure others will be interested, too.

A. This one stop professional mall for nurses includes: (1) a message base where you can discuss clinical, legal, ethical, political, and psychological aspects of nursing; (2) a conferencing area where users talk "live" with other nurses sharing your same interests and where expert guest speakers will be featured on a regular basis; (3) a library area where you can upload and download the latest nursing job opportunities (online nurse recruitment services), educational materials, upcoming conference lists, professional organization files, as well as continuing education programs provided through the University of Maryland School of Nursing. These programs can be completed in the comfort and privacy of your own home while earning needed accredited contact hours towards continuing education units; and (4) nursing gopher and usenet discussion group access, specifically designed to connect you to the most updated nursing information from resources around the world. All continuing education programs are ANCCCA accredited and have been developed by the University of Maryland School of Nursing and enable you to earn 2 contact hours per program towards required CEUs for licensure and certification maintenance. Starting October 1994, contact hours will be awarded by attending "live" interactive conferences on the forum on Wednesday evenings starting at 9 PM EDT in addition to the written programs. If you're looking for a job in the medical field, the forum also provides online resources by simply forwarding your resume via email to PRN MedSearch. A medical recruiter does all the work finding you a job. Future developments include online purchase of medical/nursing texts and other nursing products. Stayed tuned for news of availability of these services.
